Styling secrets of the pros!
When it comes to styling the hair there are a few key points that you always want to remember. For starters, you want to begin by applying products specifically designed for your hair type and the style you are trying to achieve. If the right products are chosen it will make your styling efforts much faster and easier. You can refer to the pages on this site for product suggestions for each hair type but your best bet is to see me, or your stylist, for a consultation. Once you have applied the appropriate products you can start with the blow dry. Make sure you have a quality dryer with plenty of power. I recommend no less than 1600 watts. You want to begin by taking about 90% of the moisture out of your hair, always making sure to dircet the flow of air from root to end. This will give you a shinier, frizz free finish. Once your hair is 90% dry you can begin using a round brush for movement and volume or a paddle brush for a smoother, flat finish. I recommend using a ceramic ionic brush. They are made out of ceramic, like a flat iron, so they give you a great end result. They cost a little more but are well worth it. The most important thing to remember while styling with a brush, blow dryer, or any heat styling tool is to heat up and cool down the hair. The heat will "soften" the hair so it can take shape and cooling it off will "harden" the hair by contracting the cuticle back down. You can cool the hair by simply removing the heat or using your cool shot button on your dryer. Make sure to keep good tension on the hair while it's cooling off. This helps lock it into the shape you desire and also leaves you with a shiny, frizz free finish. After your blow dry you can touch up with a flat iron, curling iron, and any finishing products that you desire.
